Before you start

  • Do not smoke when working at or around the fuel system and avoid open fire.
  • Collect any spilled fuel and treat it according to environmental regulations.

Procedure

  1. Close-off the fuel supply to the engine.
  2. Remove the entire filter with the aid of a special tool. Note that the filter still contains some fuel, which should be collected and treated in accordance with environmental directives.
  3. Clean the surface to touch the engine before fitting the filter.
  4. Grease the rubber ring with clean engine oil.
  5. Fill the filter with clean diesel fuel.
  6. Position the filter against the filter housing and tighten it with one half to three quarters of a turn.
  7. Clean the filter of the fuel lift pump and reopen the cock of the fuel supply.
  8. After changing the fuel filter element the fuel system must be bled: Turn the key in the start switch in the ON position and after about 1 minute the fuel lift pump will begin to operate and bleed the system automatically.
  9. If so required the bleeding of the system can also take place via the fuel filter (only in the case of a 4-cylinder engine).
