Before you start

  • If the engine runs correctly for a short time and then stops or runs roughly, check for air and a probable leak in the suction or low-pressure system.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the vent plug on top of the twin element fuel filter two or three turns (or the banjo connection bolt on a single element filter).
  2. Operate the priming lever on the fuel lift pump until fuel free of air comes from the vent point; tighten the vent plug.
  3. Ensure the manual stop is in the run position (or the start switch key at R).
  4. Loosen the union nut of the fuel inlet pipe and operate the priming lever until fuel free of air comes from the connection.
  5. Loosen the union nut at the fuelled starting aid if fitted and prime until fuel free of air comes from the connection.
  6. Loosen the high-pressure pipe connections at two of the atomisers.
  7. Operate the starter motor until fuel free from air comes from the pipe connections.
