Before you start

  • Only early Bosch EPVE pumps have a mark on the flange. The mark was removed when the locking screw was introduced.

Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel injection pump, see Operation 11-14.
  2. Fit the adaptor 21825513 to the drive shaft of the fuel pump and fasten with the fuel pump gear nut.
  3. Release the screw (B3), set the timing tool to the correct angle, and tighten the screw.
  4. Fit the timing tool to the splined adaptor; align the master spline with number 1 outlet of the pump.
  5. Remove the plug and washer from the rear of the pump; fit adaptor 21825626 and a dial gauge set to approximately 2,0 mm.
  6. Rotate the tool and drive shaft counter-clockwise from the drive end; set the dial gauge to zero at lowest plunger position.
  7. Rotate the drive shaft clockwise until the gauge indicates 1,0 mm plunger lift; the pointer slot must align with the flange mark.
  8. If the mark is not correct, eliminate the flange mark, fit the timing tool and make a new mark within the pointer slot.
  9. Remove the timing tool, splined adaptor, adaptor and dial gauge; fit the washer and plug to the rear of the fuel pump.
  10. Fit the fuel injection pump, see Operation 11-15.
  11. Eliminate air from the fuel system, see Operation 11-25.
