For the Northern Lights 984K / M984, from the Northern Lights operator's manual.

Applies to: Northern Lights M984, Northern Lights 984K engine

Before you start

  • Never steam clean or pour cold water on an injection pump while the engine is running or the pump is warm.
  • Any disassembly of the injection pump must be done by specially trained mechanics; warranties are void if pump seals are broken by unauthorized persons.

Procedure

  1. Clean the injection pump, hoses and surrounding area with solvent or steam cleaner (not while running or warm).
  2. Remove the injection lines as an assembly without removing spacers; cover all openings.
  3. Remove the pump support bracket on the rear of the pump.
  4. Remove the plug from the timing case cover and mark the pump gear through the hole; do not rotate the crankshaft after marking.
  5. Remove the 4 mounting nuts (two at the back, two at the front).
  6. Take the pump to a Northern Lights dealer or injection repair station.
  7. On installation, reverse the removal process and make sure the gear mark shows through the plug hole.
  8. Torque the mounting bolts to 21.7 - 32.5 ft/lbs (3.0 - 4.5 kg-m).
