MTU — Drive Belt Replacement - Battery-charging Generator Drive

For these MTU models: 12/16V 4000 Gx3, 12V 4000 Gx3, 12V4000 G23, 12V4000 G23R, 12V4000 G63.

Before you start

  • Risk of injury!
  • WARNING: Only use specified tools and equipment

Procedure

  1. Remove guard cover
  2. Slacken screws (1) and (2) by half a turn
  3. Place socket adapter or box wrench on screw (3) and press belt tensioner in the direction indicated by the arrow as far as it will go
  4. Tighten screw (2)
  5. Remove the used drive belt
  6. Fit new drive belt
  7. Slacken screw (2) by half a turn - belt tensioner moves against the drive belt and tensions it
  8. Use torque wrench to tighten screw (1) to 42 Nm and screw (2) to 60-65 Nm
  9. Install guard cover
  10. Readjust belt tension after 30 minutes engine runtime
  11. Readjust belt tension again after 8 hours engine runtime

Tools required

  • socket adapter
  • box wrench
  • torque wrench

Specs & torque values

  • new drive belt
  • torque screw 1 to 42 Nm
  • torque screw 2 to 60-65 Nm
