Before you start
- Keep oil and grease away from the belt, since they may cause the belt to slip and shorten service life
- Excessive V-belt tension can cause rapid wear of the alternator bearing and shorten service life of the belt
Procedure
- Visually inspect the V-belt for surface separations and damages
- If damages or surface separations are found, replace the V-belt with a new one
- Apply force (approx 98 to 147 N or 10 to 15 kgf) to the center of the V-belt between pulleys
- Deflection should be 7 + 1 mm for a new belt and 9 + 1 mm for readjustment
- If the deflection does not meet the specification, adjust the tension
- Remove the alternator front cover and belt cover
- Loosen all retaining bolts on the alternator and adjusting rod
- Loosen the upper and lower lock nuts on the adjusting rod (note: lower nut has left-hand threads)
- Turn the adjusting rod to adjust the V-belt tension
- After tension adjustment, tighten the upper and lower lock nuts
- Tighten all the retaining bolts on the alternator and adjusting rod
- Reinstall the alternator front cover and belt cover

Specs & torque values
- V-belt tension deflection 7 + 1 mm for new belt
- 9 + 1 mm for readjustment
- force 98 to 147 N or 10 to 15 kgf
