Before you start
- To crank the engine, shut off the fuel supply (keep the control rack of the fuel injection pump in the OFF position) and operate the starters.
Procedure
- Remove the cap from the oil filler on the left side of the engine.
- Pour engine oil of the specified type.
- Check the oil pan and other parts for oil leaks; repair any leakage found.
- Operate the engine oil priming pump to circulate oil in the engine.
- Remove the rocker cover and make sure oil is supplied to the valve mechanisms.
- Stop the priming pump; after about 30 minutes add oil to the Maximum line on the oil level gage.
- Reinstall the cap on the oil filler.
- Keep the oil level between MAXIMUM and MINIMUM marks on the oil level gage.
- Crank the engine for about 10 seconds or less using the starters and wait about 1 minute; repeat several times.
- Check the oil level again and add oil if necessary.
