Before you start

  • To drain oil or change oil filters, wear gloves. Hot engine oil and parts can cause burns.
  • Never wash and reuse oil filters, as their elements are paper type.
  • When replacing filters, always replace gasket with new ones.

Procedure

  1. Drain engine oil from the engine oil drain port after the engine has stopped.
  2. Clean the area around the oil filters.
  3. Place a drip pan under oil filters and a bypass oil filter.
  4. Using a filter wrench, remove oil filters and a bypass oil filter.
  5. Wipe off oil on the oil filter mounting surface of the filter bracket with a cloth.
  6. Check new oil filters and a bypass filter for proper seating of the gasket.
  7. Apply clean engine oil to the gasket on new oil filters and a bypass oil filter.
  8. Install oil filters and a bypass oil filter. When the gasket contacts the mounting surface, further rotate 3/4 to a full turn.
  9. Refill engine oil to the specified level.
  10. Check the oil pan and other parts for oil leakage.
  11. Shut off the fuel supply and crank the engine for about 10 seconds, then wait about 1 minute.
  12. Perform the cranking operation again to circulate oil in the engine.
  13. Check the oil level with the oil level gauge again, and add oil to the specified level.
