Mitsubishi — Bleeding fuel system

Maintenance

From a Mitsubishi operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Applies to: Mitsubishi S16R-Y1PTA-2 engine

Before you start

  • Wipe off spilled fuel thoroughly; spilled fuel is a fire hazard.
  • Do not close all air vent plugs before locking the priming pump cap.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the air vent plug on the fuel filter intake for the left bank cylinder about 1.5 turns.
  2. Turn the priming pump cap counterclockwise to unlock, and prime the fuel filter.
  3. When fuel from the air vent plug is free from air bubbles, stop priming and tighten the plug to specified torque.
  4. Loosen the air vent plug on the fuel filter outlet about 1.5 turns and bleed as above.
  5. Bleed the fuel filters for the right bank cylinders the same way.
  6. Loosen the air vent cock on the fuel injection pump about 1.5 turns.
  7. Prime until fuel flow is free from bubbles, lock the priming pump cap and tighten the air vent plug.
  8. Repeat the same procedure for the fuel injection pump on the other side.

Specs & values

  • Air vent plug torque: 7.8 to 9.8 N-m (0.8 to 1.0 kgf-m) [5.7 to 7.2 lbf-ft]
