Magnum MTP6000S3 — Starting the Pump

Operation

For the Magnum MTP6000S3, from the Magnum operator's manual.

Applies to: John Deere PE4024HF285 engine

Before you start

  • Never adjust pump flow by attaching a valve to the intake or outlet side of the pump; restricting flow can cause overheating and explosion of the pump volute.
  • Avoid running the intake side dry; keep intake hose 4-5 times the hose diameter below the liquid surface (4-5 x 6 in = 24-30 in [61-76 cm]).

Procedure

  1. Check all hose couplings, covers and plugs are tight.
  2. Check bearing oil and mechanical seal oil levels are in the middle of each sight glass.
  3. Check the oil leak vent between the bearing oil and mechanical seal oil lip seals for leakage.
  4. Check engine oil level, coolant level and fuel level.
  5. Make sure engine starting battery is connected.
  6. Make sure emergency stop switch is pulled out (deactivated).
  7. Turn engine start switch key to RUN; after startup screen clears and gauges appear, crank engine in START until it starts.
  8. Allow engine to run until it reaches constant speed; adjust speed with Speed Control switch.
  9. Pump should self prime and discharge within minutes; if it fails to prime within five minutes, stop and check suction line for leaks.
