Magnum MTP6000S3 — Pump Set Up

Installation

For the Magnum MTP6000S3, from the Magnum operator's manual.

Applies to: John Deere PE4024HF285 engine

Before you start

  • If a manual shutoff valve is installed in the discharge line, it must not be left closed during operation; closed valve can cause explosive rupture of the pump casing.
  • Never open the priming cover on a pump that is hot or that has been operated recently.
  • Do not operate the pump unless all connecting piping, fill plug and other fittings are securely installed.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect pump from tow vehicle by turning tongue jack clockwise; disconnect safety chains, surge brake cables and wiring harness; chock wheels.
  2. Lower rear leveling jacks; turn handles clockwise until feet contact ground; adjust until pump is level.
  3. Attach fittings to intake and outlet openings; ensure gasket/seal between volute and flange; tighten all hardware for airtight seal.
  4. Attach rigid hose to suction side; suction hose should be at least as large as pump flange; check for foreign material; ensure O-ring seal present.
  5. Lubricate O-ring seal with grease for airtight seal.
  6. Attach rigid intake screen or strainer to suction hose end; openings to equal four times intake hose area.
  7. Place intake hose in liquid; submergence at least four to five times pipe diameter.
  8. Attach flexible hose to discharge side; ensure O-ring seal present in fitting; lubricate O-ring with grease.
  9. Use concentric taper on discharge side; install pressure relief valve on discharge piping.
  10. Check intake and outlet hoses for sharp bends or kinks; keep hoses as straight as possible.
  11. Fill pump casing half full with water through priming port; replace cover and tighten clamp screws hand tight.

Specs & values

  • Intake screen openings to equal four times area of intake hose (6 in x 3.14 = 18.84 sq in x 4 = 75.36 sq in [486 sq cm])
  • Submergence 4-5 x hose diameter
