Leroy-Somer — Reconditioning the bearings

Maintenance

From a Leroy-Somer service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • Too much grease causes the bearing to overheat
  • The new grease must be recently manufactured, of equivalent performance and free of impurities

Procedure

  1. Bearings without nipples: dismantle the motor, remove old grease and clean bearings and accessories with degreasing agent.
  2. Fill with new grease to 50% of the free space.
  3. Bearings with nipples: always begin by cleaning the waste grease channel.
  4. Remove the covers and clean the grease nipple heads.
  5. If a different grease is used, dismantle the motor and clean bearings, accessories and grease pipes with degreasing agent.
  6. Fill the inner free spaces of the bearing retainers, flanges and grease pipes and 30% of the bearing free space.
  7. Rotate the motor shaft to distribute the grease.
