Leroy-Somer — Coupling - Preparation and balancing

Installation

From a Leroy-Somer service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • Inertia flywheels must not be mounted directly onto the shaft extension
  • Use a special lubricant (e.g. molykote grease) for fitting the coupling

Procedure

  1. Turn the motor by hand before coupling to detect any fault due to handling.
  2. Remove any protection from the shaft extension.
  3. Drain off any condensation water which may have formed inside the motor.
  4. Remove the rotor locking device for made-to-order motors with roller bearings.
  5. Balance the coupling element according to the shaft marking (H = half-key standard, N = no key, F = full key).
  6. Ensure the hub is fully in contact with the shaft shoulder or stop ring and longer than the shaft extension (2 to 3 mm).
