Leroy-Somer — Aligning the pulleys and adjusting belt tension
Adjustments · Belt drive
From a Leroy-Somer service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.
Before you start
- Too much tension = unnecessary force on the end shields
- Too little tension = vibration
- The belts must be antistatic and flame-resistant
Procedure
- Check that the motor shaft is totally parallel to that of the receiving pulley.
- Allow approximately 3% adjustment with respect to the calculated distance E for belt positioning.
- Never use force when fitting the belts.
- For notched belts, position the notches in the pulley grooves.
- For fixed centres, place a belt tensioning pulley on the slack side of the belts.
- For adjustable centres, mount the motor on slide rails on a horizontal baseplate and adjust alignment and tension.
- Fix the slide rails and adjust the belt tension as recommended by the belt supplier.
