Before you start

  • Do not use compressed air to clean the switch because it can cause debris to lodge in the components and cause damage.
  • Making line or auxiliary connections. Hazardous voltage can cause severe injury or death. Deenergize the normal power source before making any line or auxiliary connections.

Procedure

  1. Determine the cable size and number using the cable size table; ensure lugs suit the cables.
  2. Drill entry holes for conductors at locations shown on enclosure drawings; remove debris.
  3. Install and test power cables; leave slack to reach all power connecting lugs.
  4. Test the power conductors before connecting them to the transfer switch.
  5. Clean cables with a wire brush to remove surface oxides.
  6. Apply joint compound to the connections of any aluminum conductors.
  7. Connect cables following phase markings (A, B, C, N); for single-phase connect to A and C.
  8. Tighten all cable lug connections to the torque values shown on the label on the switch.
  9. Wipe off any excess joint compound after tightening the terminal lugs.
