Before you start

  • Foreign material contamination: cover the transfer switch and solenoid mechanism during installation
  • Hardware damage: use correct size tools to prevent rounding bolt heads/nuts

Procedure

  1. Check the system voltage and frequency against the transfer switch nameplate and the source/generator set nameplate; do not install if different
  2. Plan the installation using the enclosure dimension (ADV) drawings in Section 6
  3. Select a mounting site complying with local electrical code restrictions for the enclosure type; mount as close to load and power sources as possible
  4. NEMA 3R enclosures: support the front panel while removing screws, pull the bottom of the panel out and down until the top clears the enclosure, remove the inner panel
  5. NEMA 3R enclosures: turn the locking tab out while open so the door can be locked with a padlock after installation
  6. Wall mounting: mount to a wall or other rigid vertical supporting structure using the dimension drawings for hole locations; use shims to plumb the enclosure
  7. Cover or remove internal components to protect from drill chips or debris during installation; vacuum out debris (do not use compressed air)
  8. Tighten mounting screws to 2.9 Nm (26 in. lb.) when reinstalling components
  9. Use washers with mounting screws on NEMA 3R enclosures to protect the gaskets sealing the mounting holes
