Kohler — Ignition System Operational Test
For these Kohler models: 7.5A27, 7.5R23.

Before you start
- FLASH FIRE! A sudden flash fire can cause serious burns. To avoid the possibility of a flash fire, do not smoke or permit flame or spark to occur near carburetor, fuel line, fuel filter, fuel pump, or other potential sources of spilled fuel or fuel vapors.
Procedure
- Remove the high tension lead at the spark plug.
- Bend a paper clip and insert it into boot.
- Hold the end about 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) to 1/8 inch (8 mm) away (with insulated pliers to prevent electrical shock) from the cylinder head while cranking the engine.
- Observe if a sharp snappy spark occurs (indicating magneto is operating) or if no spark or very weak spark occurs (indicating ignition trouble).

- Spark gap: 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) to 1/8 inch (8 mm)
