Procedure

  1. 3. Remove the governor cross shaft oil seal from the
  2. crankcase. See Figure 9~47.
  3. Figure 9-48. Removing Governor Gear.
  4. NOTE: The governor gear is held onto the gover-
  5. nor gear shaft by small molded tabs in the
  6. gear. When the gear is removed from the
  7. shaft these tabs are destroyed. This will
  8. require replacement of the gear; therefore,
  9. remove the gear only if absolutely neces-
  10. sary (such as when reboring, doing major
  11. engine rebuilding, etc.).
  12. 9.12
  13. 1. Manual (retractable) starting is much easier. With-
  14. out ACR, manual starting would be virtually impos-
  15. sible.
  16. 2. Electric start models can use a starter and battery
  17. size that are practical for the applications in which
  18. these engines are used.
  19. 3. ACR eliminates the need for a spark retard/ad-
  20. vance mechanism. A spark retard/advance
  21. mechanism would be required on engines without
  22. ACR to prevent the “kickback” that would occur
  23. during starting. ACR eliminates this “kickback”
  24. making manual starting safer.
  25. 4. The choke control setting is less critical with ACR.
