Procedure

  1. 4. Install the brush holder tool to keep the brushes in
  2. the pockets of the commutator end cap.
  3. 5. Align the match marks on the commutator end cap
  4. and starter frame. Hold the drive end and commu-
  5. tator end caps firmly to the starter frame. Remove
  6. the brush holder tool.
  7. 6. Install the thru bolts and tighten securely.
  8. 7. Lubricate the drive shaft with Kohler electric starter
  9. drive lubricant. Install the drive pinion, dust cover
  10. spacer, anti-drift spring, stop gear spacer, stop
  11. nut, and dust cover. Refer to “Starter Drive Serv-
  12. ice” above.
  13. 1. Remove clip.
  14. 2. Remove cap screws and solenoid. Scribe align-
  15. ment marks on caps and frame to aid assembly.
  16. 3. Remove thru bolts, drive end cap, commutator
  17. end cap, and frame.
  18. 4. Remove drive lever.
  19. 5. Remove thrust washer and retainer to remove
  20. drive pinion from shaft.
