Before you start

  • Bypass and isolate the transfer switch before removing it from the enclosure. The bypass/isolation switch is energized; do not touch the isolation contact fingers or control circuit terminals.
  • Do not use excessive force on the mechanical handles.
  • When the ATS is in the TEST or ISOLATE position the bypass switch acts as a manual transfer switch to either available source.

Procedure

  1. Check that the ATS is in automatic mode: ATS location handle in AUTO, manual bypass handle in OPEN, disconnect switch in AUTO.
  2. Turn the disconnect switch to the INHIBIT position.
  3. Position the manual bypass handle to the same power source as the ATS.
  4. For testing: move the ATS location handle to TEST and turn the disconnect switch to AUTO.
  5. Run an automatic operation test as described in Section 6.5 and end the test before proceeding.
  6. For isolating: move the ATS location handle to the ISOLATE position; the ATS ISOLATE position lamp illuminates.
  7. For removal, move the ATS location handle to the RELEASE position.
  8. Disconnect the multipin plugs and external connections from the ATS.
  9. Lift the ATS out of its drawer.
  10. To reconnect, place the ATS into its drawer slots (front rollers first).
  11. Turn the disconnect switch to INHIBIT and manually position the ATS to the same source as the bypass switch.
  12. Reconnect the multipin plugs and external connections to the ATS.
  13. Push the ATS inward to engage the carriage and move the ATS location handle to the TEST position.
  14. Turn the disconnect switch to AUTO, start and end a test, then turn the disconnect switch to INHIBIT.
  15. Move the ATS location handle to AUTO, turn the disconnect switch to AUTO, and move the manual bypass handle to OPEN (ATS now fully automatic).
