Before you start

  • Hazardous voltage: disconnect all power sources before opening the enclosure
  • To prevent electrical shock, deenergize the normal power source before making any line or auxiliary connections

Procedure

  1. Determine cable size from Figure 2-8 or the ADV drawings in Section 6
  2. Use separate conduit for AC power wiring and low-voltage DC/control/communication wiring; use watertight conduit hubs for outdoor use
  3. Clean cables with a wire brush to remove surface oxides before connecting to terminals
  4. Apply joint compound to connections of any aluminum conductors
  5. Connect utility power to Normal, generator set to Emergency, per the connection diagrams on the enclosure door and Section 6 wiring diagrams
  6. Single-phase models: connect to A and C; three-phase models: follow phase markings A, B, C, and N
  7. Service entrance models: connect the utility source to the lugs on the normal source disconnect circuit breakers
  8. Verify all connections match drawings, then tighten cable lug connections to the torque values shown on the switch label
  9. Wipe off excess joint compound after tightening the terminal lugs
