Kohler — 15/20/25 Amp Battery Charging System Test

Before you start

  • Always zero ohmmeter on each scale before testing.

Procedure

  1. Insert an ammeter in B+ lead from rectifier-regulator. With engine running at 3600 RPM, measure B+ to ground with DC voltmeter. If 13.8 volts or more, place a minimum 5 amp load on battery and observe
  2. Remove connector from rectifier-regulator. With engine at 3600 RPM, measure AC voltage across stator leads.
  3. With engine stopped, measure resistance across stator leads using an ohmmeter.
  4. With engine stopped, measure resistance from each stator lead to ground using an ohmmeter.

Specs & values

  • 3600 RPM no load
  • 13.8 V or more
  • 28 V AC or more = stator OK
  • 0.1/0.2 ohms stator OK
