Before you start

  • Failure to remove the exciter field leads from the automatic voltage regulator during flashing may destroy the regulator.
  • Batteries may explode when exposed to an electric arc.

Procedure

  1. Shutdown generator set. Remove exciter field leads F+ and F- from the regulator.
  2. Connect F+ and F- leads to the battery's positive and negative terminals using an appropriate length of lead wire.
  3. After 3 to 5 seconds, remove the F- lead; an inductive arc should result. If no arc, repeat.
  4. Reconnect F+ and F- leads to the regulator. Restart generator and verify terminal voltage develops.
