Before you start

  • To prevent damage to regulator and rotating rectifiers, isolate them during this test.

Procedure

  1. Isolate rotating rectifiers: for two-plate, jumper across mounting plates and exciter armature leads; for one-plate, jumper across PCBs and exciter armature leads.
  2. Identify, detach, and insulate lugs on all leads from generator to regulator; disconnect grounded neutral connection.
  3. Short-circuit secondary of current transformer.
  4. Attach 500 volt megohmmeter to frame and to ac power leads, then to F field; minimum 1.3 megohms.
  5. Repeat test on CF field if used.
  6. Restore circuit and remove jumpers if insulation checks are within limits.
