Before you start
- In Step f, lift end frame only.
- Be careful not to damage shaft surface as end frame moves away from generator.
- On reassembly, apply pressure to inner race of new bearing until bearing seats against shoulder of shaft or bearing collar. Do not apply pressure to outer race.
Procedure
- If oil lubrication, drain oil.
- On fan end, remove bearing cap bolts or screws (44).
- Remove fan cover band (52).
- On fan end, remove one top end frame mounting bolt (38); insert eyebolt into threaded hole.
- Attach hoist to eyebolt, pull taut, remove remaining end frame mounting bolts (38), and remove end frame.
- Bend tang on bearing lockwasher (46) out of slot on bearing locknut (47); remove lockwasher and locknut.
- Remove bearing (45) with standard bearing puller and discard.
- Remove bearing cap (42).
- Remove fan hub bolts (41) or disassemble split fan hub, and remove fan.
