Before you start
- The generator can whip or snap sideways as it shifts to a vertical position.
- Exciter field assembly is attached to end frame; protect rotating rectifier assembly.
- On reassembly, attach exciter field coil to end frame before mounting end frame on generator.
Procedure
- If oil lubrication, drain oil.
- Remove fan and driving disc assembly (5) by removing mounting bolts (6); check for fan spacer.
- Remove end frame covers (12 and 27).
- Identify and disconnect internal leads at terminal box; ensure free to withdraw through frame.
- Attach hoist to eyebolt; insert steel cable through end frame windows and connect second hoist.
- Put generator in vertical position.
- Remove end frame mounting bolts (28) and lift out end frame and rotating assembly.
- Attach or realign hoist cable in end frame windows; remove bearing cap mounting bolts (19).
- Remove end frame.
- Detach exciter field coil assembly (26) by removing retaining bolts and washer (29).
- Remove bearing (14) as directed.
- Remove bearing collar (20) if used, and cap or plate (21).
- Remove rotating rectifier assembly (24) and exciter armature (25).
- Remove rotating field and shaft assembly from stator.
