Procedure

  1. Shut down system.
  2. Check for exciter leads labeled F+ and F-, or F+, F-, CF+, CF- on dual-field units; if not found, contact factory.
  3. Determine if generator is connected for high or low voltage.
  4. Disconnect, insulate, and identify external leads to regulator terminal board.
  5. Check for shorts and grounds in exciter shunt field.
  6. Start engine and bring to rated speed at no load.
  7. Using fully charged 12-volt battery, energize exciter field: CF+ and CF- on dual-field exciters, F+ and F- on single-field exciters.
  8. Measure and record all three line-to-line voltages at no load; they should balance within 1%.
  9. If correct ac voltage is not in GSI sheets, consult factory.
  10. If generator passes, check Regulator Manual for further tests.
