Procedure

  1. 1. Remove the terminal box cover, and disconnect the load leads and
  2. all other leads. Tag the leads to ensure they are correctly connected
  3. when the generator is reassembled.
  4. 2. Remove the bolts securing the generator to the base and prime
  5. mover, and move the generator to an area that allows suffi cient room
  6. for disassembly.
  7. 3. Remove the coupling or drive plates.
  8. 4. Remove the exciter cover.
  9. 5. Remove the clips securing the exciter fi eld leads to the exciter frame
  10. and endbracket. Disconnect the leads and remove the exciter frame/
  11. stator and/or exciter-PMG frame/stator.
  12. 6. Remove the (optional) PMG and exciter armature as described
  13. below.
  14. 7. Support the shaft. Remove the exciter-end endbracket bolts, and
  15. remove the endbracket. Tap lightly with a rubber or fi ber mallet
  16. to loosen the endbracket if necessary. Repeat with the drive-end
  17. endbracket (if applicable).
  18. 8. Remove the fan from the hub where applicable. If necessary, make
  19. sure to mark the location of the f
  20. an for reinstallation.
  21. 9. Float out the rotor (see Figure 23). First attach a pipe over the shaft
  22. on the drive end. Attach slings around the pipe on one end and
  23. around the shaft on the opposite end. Lift up the rotor, and move it
  24. out, resting the rotor as the slings are moved down the pipe for the
  25. next lifting stage.
  26. Note: The following procedures are meant
  27. to be a general guide. Procedures for your
  28. unit may vary.
  29. Warning: Ensure the generator has stopped
  30. and is de-energized before disassembly.
  31. Warning: Use a hoist and slings or chains
  32. to support components during removal. Use
  33. lifting devices that are selected for generator
  34. component weights. Be extremely careful
  35. not to damage components.
  36. Warning: Make sure the pipe is strong
  37. enough to support the weight of the rotor
  38. and that it does not have rough edges on
  39. the inside, which could damage the shaft.
  40. Caution: To prevent tension on the shaft,
  41. put the slings around the largest shaft step
  42. possible.
  43. Caution: Make sure the rotor does not
  44. rest on the stator during the stages of
  45. movement. Make sure the rotor does not hit
  46. the stator.
