Before you start

  • Handle seal and wear sleeve assembly carefully; if assembly becomes separated, discard and install a new assembly.
  • Locate crossbar of installer at 90° to Allen head cap screws so crossbar bottoms on pilot.
  • No lubrication of any kind is to contact the seal when installing.

Procedure

  1. Apply a light coating of LOCTITE 609 Retaining Compound completely around leading edge of crankshaft flange; wipe away any sealant on seal housing bore.
  2. Install JDG477(85) Pilot on end of crankshaft using the Allen head cap screws supplied with tool set; tighten securely.
  3. Carefully start oil seal/wear sleeve assembly over pilot and crankshaft flange with open side of seal toward engine.
  4. Position JDG478 Driver so hole in cross plate goes over threaded stud of pilot; install washer and nut on stud.
  5. Tighten nut to draw driver in until crossbar bottoms on pilot; seal and wear ring assembly is then correctly positioned.
  6. Remove JDG476(85) Tool Set from engine.
