Before you start

  • NOTE: The fuel transfer pump is driven by a push rod (D)
  • NOTE: If line is not visible, engine may be at No. 6

Procedure

  1. 9. Install retaining ring onto mounting base and tighten
  2. about 1/3 turn until ring “snaps” into the detent. DO
  3. NOT overtighten the retaining ring.
  4. 10. Bleed fuel system. See BLEED THE FUEL SYSTEM
  5. in Section 04, Group 150 later in this manual.
  6. 11. If applicable, connect water in fuel sensor connector.
  7. 1. Disconnect fuel inlet line (A) and outlet line (B) and cap
  8. connections on fuel transfer pump and fuel lines to
  9. keep debris out of fuel system.
  10. 2. Remove cap screws (C) and remove fuel transfer
  11. pump assembly from cylinder block.
  12. NOTE: The fuel transfer pump is driven by a push rod (D)
  13. that rides on an eccentric camshaft lobe. The
  14. cylinder head must be removed to remove this
  15. push rod.
  16. 3. Cover opening on cylinder block to prevent dirt from
  17. entering the engine.
  18. 4. Inspect face of pump lever for wear. If lever face is
  19. worn flat or concave, replace pump.
  20. 1. Install the fuel transfer pump to cylinder block with
  21. pumping lever resting on top of push rod, using a new
  22. O-ring. Tighten cap screws (C) to specifications.

Tools required

  • 6. Remove 3 capscrews (E) from fuel pump adapter plate
  • 2. If adapter plate (F) has been removed from high
  • pressure pump, torque the pump to the adapter plate

Specs & torque values

  • 29.5 lb-ft
  • 22 lb-ft
  • 50.1 lb-ft
