Before you start
- When installing bearing, press only on outer bearing race; do NOT press on bearing shaft.
- When installing drive gear or impeller, support the shaft so pressing load is transmitted through the shaft; bearing damage results if load is transmitted through outer race.
Procedure
- Support pump housing on gasket surface.
- Using JDG727 Bearing Driver, press a new bearing into drive gear end until outer race is 6.75—7.00 mm below nose of housing. Press only on outer race.
- Apply light film of clean engine oil to drive gear end of shaft and oil seal lip. Install new oil seal flush with housing nose, spring-loaded lip facing gear end.
- Support pump on impeller end of bearing shaft; press drive gear onto shaft until flush with end of shaft.
- Support pump on gear end; use R113749 Seal Driver and JDG727 to install new water pump seal to height 10.16—10.42 mm.
- Support pump on gear end; press new impeller onto shaft until impeller face is 2.97—3.23 mm below gasket surface. Impeller must rotate freely.
- Apply LOCTITE 518 Flexible Sealant to gasket surfaces; install new gasket and pump cover. Tighten four cover cap screws to 30 N·m (22 lb-ft).
- If drain valve removed, apply LOCTITE 592 Pipe Sealant to threads and tighten to 27 N·m (20 lb-ft).
- Install new weep hole filters and a new O-ring on pump housing pilot.
