Before you start

  • Belt tension that is too high will result in generator failure; loose belt causes slippage, damaged belt and abnormal noise.
  • Replace all belts as a set even when one is not usable.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the generator adjusting plate bolt and the generator mounting bolt.
  2. Pivot the generator at the mounting bolt toward the engine left or right hand side as required.
  3. Tighten the mounting bolt and the adjusting bolt.
  4. Recheck the belt tension after tightening the bolts.
  5. Operate the engine about five minutes at a low idle speed and recheck the belt tension.

Specs & values

  • Belt tension is normal when depressed 10 mm (0.39 in) with the thumb at midway between the fan pulley and generator pulley (about 10 kg (22 lb) depressing force)
