Before you start

  • Use a receptacle to receive the drained oil so that the engine and equipment may not be stained.
  • Do not dispose of used engine oil carelessly; recycle it at a used oil collection facility.

Procedure

  1. Wipe clean around the oil filler cap and remove the filler cap.
  2. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil completely (preferably while engine is warm).
  3. Use a filter wrench to remove the cartridge type oil filter element.
  4. Apply lightly engine oil to the O-ring of the new cartridge.
  5. Turn in new cartridge until its sealed face contacts the O-ring.
  6. Use a filter wrench to turn the cartridge a further 3/4 turn.
  7. Reinstall the drain plug and fill with new engine oil by the oil filler port.
  8. Wait about fifteen minutes until the oil gets down to the oil pan, then check the oil level with a dipstick.
  9. Idle the engine to raise the oil pressure, then check for oil leakage.
  10. Stop the engine and keep it stationary about twenty minutes, then recheck the oil level with the dipstick.
