From a Ingersoll Rand service manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.
Before you start
- Disconnect the grinder from the air supply hose and shut off air to the tool before proceeding with the Test and Inspection Procedure.
Procedure
- Run performance tests at 90 psig (6.2 bar/620 kPa) air pressure at the inlet with an eight foot (2.44 m) length of 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter air supply hose.
- Without a wheel, operate the Grinder with the Throttle Lever fully depressed and check the free speed with a hand-held tachometer at the spindle end.
- Test the Grinder Motor for power to determine minimum performance levels; hold the Lever open until the test is complete.
- There must be no objectionable leaks in any non-exhaust area; the Throttle must not leak when closed.
- There must be no leaks past the closed Throttle that will run the motor.
- The Grinder must start smoothly when the Throttle Lever is depressed and shut off completely when released.
- The Grinder must be equipped with a spring-loaded window style Lock (17) that returns to the locked position when the Throttle Lever is released.
- The tool must run smoothly without noticeable vibration or unusual sound.
- The Arbor (58 or 59) must turn freely with no evidence of brinelled bearings.
- The threads on the arbor must be free of nicks and damage.
- The Nameplate must be legible, in place and securely fastened; make replacement if necessary.
