Before you start
- Do not interchange the compression and oil rings
Procedure
- Press bearing onto the crankshaft counterbalance.
- Place the connecting rods on the bushing and hold them with the two connecting rod rings, chamfered side next to the rod.
- Place the sleeve on the crankshaft, then install the connecting rod assembly.
- Secure the crankshaft counterbalance with the taper pin and tighten the capscrew.
- Attach the rotary valve housing and valve cover with at least two capscrews to locate bearing.
- Align bearing in the motor housing bore and tap the crankshaft assembly in place.
- Check ring fit with a feeler gauge and measure the ring gap.
- Install oil rings and compression rings in their grooves; plain compression ring nearest the piston head.
- Stagger ring joints so they do not coincide with wrist pin openings.
- Rotate the crankshaft and insert the wrist pin through the piston and connecting rod.
- Install a gasket and cylinder over each piston; the cylinder has tapered ears that act as ring compressors.
- Secure the cylinders to the motor housing with capscrews and lockwashers.
- Install rotary bushing and rotary valve in the adapter valve, aligning drive pins with the crankshaft.
- Replace the exhaust cap and secure with capscrews and lockwashers.
