  1. 1. The engine bed should be built in accordance with
  2. the following measurements.

  15. Measurement (D) crankshaft centerline (CC) – en-
  16. gine bed should be 83±8 mm (3.25±0.3").
  17. Build in drain channels to allow water to drain to the
  18. location of the bilge pump.
  19. 3. Install the engine bed drill jig, special tool 889081.
  20. NOTE! The notch for positioning the tool. Be careful
  21. to ensure that the plate of the tool is correctly fitted to
  22. the shield.
  23. For information about Jack shaft installation, please
  24. refer to the chapter Volvo Penta Jack shaft Instal-
  25. lation.
  26. 2. Cut a recess in the aft and starboard side of en-
  27. gine bed to make space for the exhaust pipe. Please
  28. refer to the figure.

  45. The engine bed should be filled, to reduce noise and
  46. vibration.
  47. Build up the engine bed with spacer material (A) so
  48. that the underside of the engine mountings/ engine
  49. rubber mountings almost rest against the bed. There
  50. must be room for flat bars and fiberglass.

  58. 5. Design the engine bed so that the under side of
  59. the tool plates rest on top of the bed. Build in a flat
  60. bar of galvanized steel, with a thickness of approx.
  61. 10 mm (3/8") and a minimum length of 250 mm (10")
  62. and a minimum width of 80 mm (3").
  63. 6. Fit the flexible drill jig at the correct position for the
  64. relevant engine type, D4 or D6.
  65. 7. Mark the bed with holes, 6mm (1/4") for the flexible
  66. engine mountings. Use drill bushings marked DIE-
  67. SEL.
  68. Then remove the special tool.

  71. 8. Drill and tap the holes with a thread tap. Dimen-
  72. sion: M12 mm (1/2"UNC) or equivalent.
  73. 4. The drill jig, special tool 889081, is suitable for Vol-
  74. vo Penta D4, D6 and V8 engines with DPH and DPR
  75. sterndrive packages.
  76. The positions on the rod are marked:
  77. D4 - D6 - V8GAS.
  78. The drill bushings on the plates are marked:
  79. DIESEL - GAS.
  80. The figure shows the drill jig in position D6.
