  7. NOTE! The minimum engine centerline distance
  8. for twin engine installation determines the transom
  9. shield centerline and engine spacing. The centerline
  10. distances for D4 and D6 engines are min. 950 mm
  11. (38").
  12. 10. Use a carpenter’s square to mark the transom.
  13. Place a mark at (A), the selected engine centerline
  14. distance to port of the transom centerline. Place a
  15. second mark (B) at the selected engine centerline
  16. distance to starboard of the transom centerline.
  17. 11. Make similar measurements from the transom
  18. centerline near the bottom of the boat to locate the
  19. bottom points.
  20. 12. Use a carpenter’s square or straight edge to
  21. connect both port and starboard transom shield cen-
  22. terline marks. Check the distance at both top and
  23. bottom to ensure the transom shield centerlines are
  24. equidistant from the transom centerline used as a
  25. reference.
  26. X-measurement
  27. 13. Determine the X measurement from the table
  28. on the following page and mark the heights from the
  29. boat bottom to the crankshafts center, the X mea-
  30. surement.

  111. 6. Paint or coat all cutout surfaces with topcoat or
  112. sealer.
  113. 5. Chamfer the inside of the transom as in the figure,
  114. for water to drain out.

  119. 1. Align fixture 3863258 against the transom. The "V"
  120. notches must coincide with the centerline and the
  121. horizontal line at four points.
  122. NOTE! The "UP" marking on the drill fixture.
  123. Using the drill fixture,
  124. special tool 3863258
  125. 2. Temporarily attach the drill fixture with two self tap-
  126. ping screws Ø 6 mm (1/4") (A).
  127. Drill all six holes Ø 14 mm (9/16").
  128. NOTE! Drill perpendicularly to the transom.
  129. 3. Mark off the transom shield hole on the transom
  130. with a pencil.
  131. NOTE! No marking around the attaching screws.
  132. 4. Cut out the hole using a jig saw. Make sure you
  133. hold the saw at an angle of 90° against the transom.

  139. Using the paper template
  140. 1. Attach the template to the transom so that the ver-
  141. tical and horizontal lines through crankshaft center
  142. (CL) on the template and the transom coincide.
  143. 2. Use a 6 mm (1/4") drill and mark up the six holes
  144. by drilling to a depth of approx. 5 mm (0.2").

  147. 3. Drill the six holes 14 mm (9/16") for the transom
  148. shield bolts.
  149. NOTE! Make sure you drill at absolutely right angles
  150. to the transom. Also make sure you locate the holes
  151. in their exact positions. Failure to do so will make it
  152. extremely difficult to fit the transom shield. Use of
  153. a portalign drill giude to ensure that the holes are
  154. drilled at right angels to the transom through the tran-
  155. som.

  157. 4. Cut out the transom shield hole in the paper tem-
  158. plate. Use a pencil and mark off the transom shield
  159. hole on the transom. Drill a hole in any of the corners,
  160. big enough to allow a jig saw to enter.
  161. Remove the template.
  162. 5. Use a jig saw and cut out the hole. Make sure that
  163. you hold the saw at right angles to the transom.

  166. Installing the transom shield
  167. 1. Pass the trim pump, the hydraulic steering hoses,
  168. the shift cable protection hose and the water inlet
  169. hose through the transom cutout.
  170. NOTE! The hoses shall always be placed on the
  171. starboard side.
  172. 2. Align the transom studs with the holes in the tran-
  173. som and press the transom shield flush against the
  174. transom.

  179. 6. Chamfer the inside of the transom as per figure, for
  180. water to drain out.
  181. 7. Paint or coat all cut surfaces with top coat paint.
  182. Note! In a DPH twin installation, the starboard TSK
  183. have the steering cylinder on the starboard side and
  184. the port TSK have the steering cylinder on the port
  185. side, see figure below.
  186. In a DPR twin installation, the starboard TSK and
  187. port TSK have steering cylinders on both sides.

  193. 4. Install the trim pump on the transom or on a bulk-
  194. head. Make sure it is easily accessible for oil filling
  195. and service, and well clear of any possible bilge wa-
  196. ter.
  197. IMPORTANT! The trim pump must be installed
  198. vertically. Please refer to the picture above.
  199. 5. Insert the shift cable through the protective hose
  200. and out through the transom shield. Apply some oil
  201. on the cable for easier installation.
  202. 6. Clamp the hoses to the shifting cable and the ac-
  203. cessory hose (autopilot/rudder indicator).
  204. Clamp the hydraulic hoses to the trim pump.
  205. IMPORTANT! The ends of the hoses must al-
  206. ways be clamped and must be well above the
  207. maximum waterline, to prevent water from en-
  208. tering into the boat.
  209. 7. Bend up the shift cable and clamp it to the inside of
  210. the transom.
  211. NOTE! Minimum bending radius for the cable:
  212. 200 mm (8").
  213. If the radius is smaller, the control will be stiff to oper-
  214. ate and there is a risk that it will lock up.
  215. 3. With the transom shield in place, install the six
  216. rectangular washers on the studs and then the nuts.
  217. Tighten the nuts evenly.
  218. Tightening torque: 80 Nm (57.8 lbf.ft).

  222. 3. Install the washer (1) and the shift cable with clamp
  223. (2) and screws along the underside of the gear shift
  224. actuator.
  225. NOTE! It is possible to install the control cable on ei-
  226. ther side of the gear shift actuator. This is to facilitate
  227. installation of the gear shift actuator in the boat. Pin
  228. must however always be installed downwards.

  231. 1. Install the actuator in a position such that the gear
  232. shift cable (push-pull cable) can be installed and
  233. clamped correctly.
  234. NOTE! Minimum bending radius for the cable: 200
  235. mm (8").
  236. 2. Install the actuator using four suitable screws.
  237. NOTE! The shift cable pin (1) must always point
  238. downwards. Adjust its position and cover the upper
  239. slot with the self adhesive protective sticker (2).
