Before you start
- Any nick or scratch to the valve stem seal is cause for replacement.
Procedure
- When compressing valve springs, do not allow valve rotator/valve spring retainer to contact the valve stem seal.
- Pre-lube valve stem seals with engine oil at re-assembly.
- Use the proper valve stem seal installation tool (40-3104704 and sleeve protector 40-3104706 for seal 40-0036412).
- Replace the valve stem seal if any nick or scratch occurs.
