General Motors — Installing the 225 Series electric actuator (electronic governor)

Installation · Electronic governor actuator

From a General Motors operator's manual covering: 4.3L 262 CID, 4.3L V6, GMG-643. Check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • The linkage should be adjusted so that the fuel control minimum fuel and maximum fuel stops are used rather than the internal actuator stops.
  • Larger gauge wire necessary for cable lengths greater than 10 ft. (3 meters).

Procedure

  1. Drill the actuator mounting holes in a prefabricated mounting bracket.
  2. Affix the actuator bracket to the selected location on the engine.
  3. Attach the actuator securely to the mounting bracket.
  4. Adjust and secure the linkage rod and rod end bearings.
  5. Fabricate a cable harness to connect the speed control unit to the actuator.
  6. Push the actuator lever to the maximum full fuel position; on release the linkage should return smoothly to minimum fuel position.

Tools required

  • #16 gauge (1.5 mm) wire for 12 V Amazon
  • #18 gauge (1.0 mm) wire for 24 V Amazon

Specs & values

  • Actuator capable of 25 degrees rotation
  • Maximum misalignment of linkage rod ends 10 degrees
  • Typical current 8 amps for 12 V systems and 4 amps for 24 V systems
  • A 1.5 ohm 25 Watt resistor in series with pin A for 24 V operation
