Before you start
- On some 4.3L engines, the distance between rear main
- bearing thrust faces is .008" (.20 mm) wider than
- standard (identified by .008" stamped on crankshaft
Procedure
- Measure the rod bearing journal out-of-round, taper and the oil clearance. If
- Ensure rod side play is within specification. See CONNECTING RODS table under
- Mark bearing caps for reassembly. Measure journal diameter, out-of-round, taper and
- Align thrust bearing surfaces, and measure crankshaft end play. See THRUST
- Install main bearing caps (except rear), and tighten cap bolts to specification. See
- Tap crankshaft rearward then forward to align thrust surfaces. Tighten rear main

- 10 ft. Ibs. 14 N.m).
