General Motors — Cleaning the cyclone type air cleaner element

Maintenance

From a General Motors operator's manual covering: 4.3L 262 CID, 4.3L V6, GMG-643. Check it applies to your exact model before use.

Before you start

  • If left loose, dust will be drawn in and the air cleaner will fail to function properly.

Procedure

  1. Remove the dust cup and withdraw the element; on a double element type do not remove the inner element when cleaning the outer.
  2. Remove the inner element only when the outer element is replaced and replace both elements at the same time.
  3. Clean the inside of the case and dust cup and slowly insert the element.
  4. If the air cleaner is placed horizontally install the dust cup with the assembling direction indicating mark facing upward.
  5. Make sure the element and dust cup are securely installed.
