Before you start

  • Refer to Safety Glasses Caution
  • Replace relief valve spring when reusing oil pump

Procedure

  1. Apply clean engine oil to pressure relief valve, spring, and pump body.
  2. Install relief valve, spring, and spring straight pin.
  3. Apply clean engine oil to drive gear, driven gear, and internal surfaces.
  4. Install drive and driven gears; align matchmarks, smooth side toward cover.
  5. Install oil pump cover and bolts; tighten bolts to 12 N-m (106 lb in).
  6. Inspect smoothness by turning driveshaft by hand.
  7. Install oil pump screen; replace if removed, press fit into body.
  8. Install oil pump driveshaft and NEW driveshaft retainer.
