General Motors — 225 Series Electronic Actuator Installation
Installation · Electronic governor
From a General Motors operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.
Before you start
- The linkage should be adjusted so that the fuel control minimum and maximum fuel stops are used rather than the internal actuator stops.
Procedure
- Drill the actuator mounting holes in a pre-fabricated mounting bracket; insure minimal misalignment between linkage ends (max 10 degrees).
- Affix the actuator bracket to the selected location on the engine.
- Attach the actuator securely to the mounting bracket.
- Adjust and secure the linkage rod and rod end bearings to obtain a linear relationship between actuator stroke and fuel delivery.
- For diesel systems, keep the actuator lever nearly parallel to the fuel control lever and perpendicular to the linkage rod at mid fuel position.
- For carbureted systems, keep the carburetor butterfly valve lever parallel with the actuator lever at maximum fuel position.
- Fabricate a cable harness to connect the speed control unit to the actuator (#16 gauge for 12V, #18 for 24V).
- Connect A and D of the military connector or the 2-pin connector harness to the speed control unit.
- Push the actuator lever to maximum full fuel position; upon release the linkage should return smoothly to minimum fuel position.
Specs & values
- #16 gauge (1.5 mm) for 12 volt systems
- #18 (1.0 mm) for 24 volt systems
- Typical current 8 amps for 12 volt systems, 4 amps for 24 volt systems
- Maximum misalignment 10 degrees
