Before you start
- DANGER: Insulation resistance testers such as Hi-Pot testers and megohmmeters are source of high and dangerous electrical voltage
- Follow tester manufacturer's instructions carefully
- Use common sense to avoid dangerous electrical shock
Procedure
- Connect Hi-Pot tester to winding being tested
- Operate tester according to manufacturer instructions
- Observe 'Breakdown' lamp during test procedure to indicate insulation breakdown in winding being tested
- If tests indicate insulation resistance of winding is below safe value, winding should be dried before operating
