Before you start
- NEVER OPERATE THE TRANSFER SWITCH MANUALLY WHEN LOADS ARE CONNECTED.
Procedure
- Switch the main breaker OFF; make sure any sub-panel primary breaker is in the ON position.
- Move the non-essential load shed contactor UP to the open (SHED) position.
- With all branch circuit breakers OFF, switch the main breaker ON; the load shed contactor should automatically move DOWN.
- If it does not, switch OFF the main breaker, correct the contactor positions and repeat the test.
- With the generator's main breaker OFF, place the mode switch in MANUAL to start the engine.
- Check that line-to-line voltage is approximately 240 volts and line-to-neutral is 120 volts.
- Place the generator in AUTO; the generator will shut down if utility power is present.
- Switch the generator's main breaker ON; the generator is ready for automatic operation.
- Shut OFF utility power; the generator should start and the transfer contactor should move to the generator position.
- Close each breaker in the priority load center one at a time until the generator accepts the entire priority load.
- Close each breaker in the non-priority sub-panel one at a time; the Load Shed contactor moves UP if the generator becomes overloaded.
- With the generator carrying the load, recheck gas pressure to verify it is at the same level as before starting.
