Procedure

1. To start the engine, turn the fuel valve to the ON posi-

3. Press and hold the off/run/start switch in the START

12. Let the engine run at no-load for several minutes to

14. Close the fuel valve.
15. Clean area around oil drain plug (Figure 4-1).
16. Remove oil drain plug from engine and oil fill plug to
17. When oil has completely drained, install oil drain plug
18. Fill engine with recommended oil. (See “Before Start-
19. Fill to the upper level on the dipstick (Figure 4-2).
20. Dispose of used oil at a proper collection center.
21. Stop the engine and shut off the fuel valve. Allow the
22. Remove the spark plug boot from the plug and clean
23. Use a 13/16 in. (21mm) spark plug tool to remove the
24. Set the new spark plug’s gap to 0.028-0.031 in.
25. Install the correctly gapped spark plug into the cylin-
26. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
27. Remove air filter cover retaining screw (A) and cover
28. Wash air filter (C) in soapy water. Squeeze filter dry
29. Clean air filter cover before installing it.
30. Tighten air filter cover screw securely.

32. Make sure the engine is at room temperature
33. Make sure that the spark plug wire(s) is removed
34. Remove the six screws attaching the valve cover(s).
35. Make sure the piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC)
36. Insert a 0.006 in. (0.15 mm) feeler gauge (A), for
37. Hold the rocker arm pivot with a wrench and loosen
38. Loosen the rocker arm pivot and turn the rocker arm
39. Hold the rocker pivot with a wrench and tighten the
40. Install new valve cover gasket.
41. Attach the valve cover. Torque fasteners to 20-48 in./
42. Attach the spark plug boot to the spark plug.
43. Turn fuel valve off.
44. Using a pliers, squeeze the clamp and slide the
45. Slide both clamps away from the fuel filter fittings
46. Remove the short hose from the fuel filter. Then
47. Place the new filter on the longer hose. The larger
48. Place the short length of hose on the filter. Then the
49. Place both clamps back onto the fittings of the filter
50. The battery charger fuse (A) is located behind the
51. The two halves of the fuse holder pull apart. Remove
52. Install a new replacement fuse and push the halves
53. Route all wires away from any engine components
54. Plug charger into “Battery Charger Input” jack (6),
55. Unplug battery charger from wall outlet and control
56. Disconnect and remove the battery mounting hard-
57. Move the red protective boot and disconnect the bat-
58. Remove the two screws and bracket from the battery
59. Place the new battery in the tray. Secure with the
60. Reconnecting the RED wire to the POSITIVE (+) ter-
61. Treat the fuel with a commercially available fuel sta-
62. Drain oil from crankcase. Refill with recommended
63. Remove spark plug and pour about 1/2 ounce (15
64. Install and tighten spark plug. Do not connect spark
65. Clean the unit’s outer surfaces. Check that cooling
66. Store the unit in a clean, dry place.
67. Circuit breaker is open.
68. Poor connection or defective cord set.
69. Connected device is bad.
70. Fault in generator.
71. 120V GFCI tripped (no light).
72. Reset circuit breaker.
73. Check and repair.
74. Connect another device that is in good condition.
