Applies to: Generac HomeLink 6500 Series

Before you start

  • Avoid spray from spark plug hole when cranking engine.
  • Allow unit to cool entirely before storage.
  • NEVER cover the generator while engine and exhaust areas are warm.

Procedure

  1. Treat the fuel with a commercially available fuel stabilizer. Operate the engine for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Turn the fuel valve off and run the unit until it shuts down.
  3. Drain oil from crankcase. Refill with recommended grade oil.
  4. Remove spark plug and pour about 1/2 ounce (15 ml) of engine oil into the cylinder.
  5. Cover spark plug hole with rag. Pull the recoil starter several times to lubricate piston rings and cylinder bore.
  6. Install and tighten spark plug. Do not connect spark plug wire.
  7. Clean the unit's outer surfaces. Check that cooling air slots and openings are open and unobstructed.
  8. Store the unit in a clean, dry place.
