Before you start

  • DANGER: Insulation resistance testers such as Hi-Pot testers and megohmmeters are source of high and dangerous electrical voltage
  • Use common sense to avoid dangerous electrical shock

Procedure

  1. If tests indicate insulation resistance of winding is below safe value, winding should be dried before operating
  2. Use hi-pot tester as shown in Figure 3-1 with 'Breakdown' lamp to indicate insulation breakdown
  3. Follow tester manufacturer's instructions carefully
