Generac — Overloading a generator in excess of its rated wattage

For these Generac models: 389/206/163cc, 410cc, GP1800, GP3250, GP5000, GP5500, GP6500, GP7000, GP8000.

Procedure

  1. Add up the total wattage of all electrical devices to
  2. The rated wattage of lights can be taken from light
  3. If the appliance, tool or motor does not give watt­
  4. Some electric motors, such as induction types,
  5. Figure the watts needed to start the largest motor.
  6. Add to that figure the running watts of all other con­
  7. Remove cover from end of alternator assembly.
  8. Remove two screws holding down the voltage regulator
  9. Leave AVR connected to stator and brushes
  10. Set VOM to measure AC voltage.
  11. Connect VOM across a 240VAC socket as shown in
