Before you start
- Do not rotate the connecting rod or crankshaft while plastigauge is installed
Procedure
- Remove oil and dirt from rod bearing and from crankpin
- Cut a length of plastigauge to the same length as the width of the bearing
- Place plastigauge on the crankpin parallel with the crankshaft
- Assemble the connecting rod bearing and cap to the crankpin
- Tighten to 22-25 foot-pounds (3.0-3.5 m-kg)
- Remove the connecting rod and bearing
- Use the plastigauge scale to measure the oil clearance in the widest area

- Tightening torque: 22-25 foot-pounds (3.0-3.5 m-kg)
- Standard clearance: 0.001-0.003 inch (0.35-0.83mm)
